What’s Induction Lamp?

Induction lamp is commonly known as electrodeless lamp, which follow the same basic principles of converting electrical power into visible radiation as conventional fluorescent lamps. The fundamental difference between induction lamp and conventional fluorescent lamps is that the former operate without electrodes and filament. The absence of electrodes and filament in the induction lamp enhances the lamp life.

Working Principle of Induction Lamp

The induction lamp consists of three parts, the frequency generator (ballast), energizing coils and the discharge tube. The high frequency generator is responsible to generate high frequency current. When the high frequency current flows through the energizing coils wrapping around the ferrite cores, inductive electric field is produced to maintain the gas discharge. The two energizing coils are in parallel with each other, and turns of the coils are determined by the products’ specifications. Discharge gas is composed of Mercury and Argon or other noble gas. The pressure of Mercury is controlled by the main amalgam. Several assistant amalgams are posited close to the ferrite core to help quick ignition.
